Barnsely manager Daniel Stendel is the latest name being considered by Middlesbrough to take over their vacant managerial position, it has been reported.

'Boro have been without a manager since deciding last week not to renew the contract of Tony Pulis after 18 months in charge at the club, and are now looking for someone to take the club back to the Premier League, and The Northern Echo have reported that may look to Stendel to do just that.

Stendel has enjoyed an outstanding first season of management in English football, earning Barnsley automatic promotion back to the Championship from League One at the first attempt, after finishing second behind eventual champions Luton.

With another 12 months remaining on his contract at Oakwell, Barnsley will surely be determined not to let Stendel leave, but would he be a good appointment for Middlesbrough if he made the move to the Riverside?

We asked some of our Football League World for their thoughts.

Jacob Potter

"This would be a shrewd bit of business.

"Stendel is unproven in the Championship, but I really do think that he could be a good appointment by Boro.

"He's a manager with a winning mentality and Middlesbrough could do far worse than appointing Stendel."

Toby Wilding

"This would be a good move from 'Boro.

"They want promotion to the Premier League and Stendel has shown in just a single season in England that he has the ability to take teams through the divisions.

"Given the way he has immersed himself at Barnsley, you feel he could quickly make himself a popular figure amongst the Middlesbrough faithful, which would be a welcome change for them from their frustration with Pulis over the 18 months or so."

George Brooks

"Stendel has done outstanding job with Barnsley in his first season in English football and he could have what it takes to make the step up to Championship.

"Even though there would be an element of risk involved, given his lack of experience of managing in the Championship, he could be a good appointment for Middlesbrough.

"I'm not sure why he'd want to leave Barnsley though, after everything he has achieved at the club so far."
