Brentford's Neal Maupay looks destined for a move this summer, it is just a question of where to and how much for.

Sheffield United have been chasing the striker for much of the summer, and now West Ham and West Brom have emerged as contenders for his signature too.

The Sun reported last week that Brentford were willing to lower their asking price, which may have sparked the increased interest in the 22-year-old, and given the standard of clubs interested it is difficult to see Maupay wanting to stay with The Bees.

However, with a number of suitors lined up it leaves Maupay with an important decision on his hands. The next step in his career is an important one in terms of his progression, and if he doesn't fit into his next team as well as he has as Brentford then his career could stagnate.

Here, our FLW Six Point Opinion takes a look at his situation and what comes next for Maupay.

Why is there suddenly a host of Premier League clubs interested in the striker?

"Maupay was a relative unknown prior to last season and particularly before he joined Brentford.

"He performed exceptionally last season. From his link-up play to his goals to the chances he created for his team-mates, he was the focal point of the Brentford attack and acted as the complete forward throughout the season.

"The attributes he displayed suggest he will be more than capable at Premier League level too. He has good pace and great reactions and that should enable him to score goals in the top-tier too."

Is he Premier League standard?

"With 25 goals and eight assists he showed last season that he is a cut-above Championship level, and therefore should do very well in the Premier League next season.

"Normally it can take a while for players to get up to the pace of the Premier League but Maupay quick-thinking and rapid turn of pace means it will be a struggle for defenders to cope with him.

"If he gels with his new team quickly and the team plays to his strengths then he should hit the ground running and have a successful season."

Which club is best suited to his style of play?

"Maupay works really well at Brentford due to their passing, attacking style of play. He works best playing on the shoulder of the last defender, running onto through balls or acting as a poacher in the box.

"West Ham and Sheffield United could both play to his strengths. Manuel Pellegrini has installed more of a passing philosophy at the club and playing in front of the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini should lead to a number of chances for the Frenchman.

"However, The Blades could be perfect for him. He will be the key man and will have countless opportunities to lead the line. Chris Wilder is a very inventive manager and will come up with ways to get him firing, just as he did with Billy Sharp and David McGoldrick last season."

Is it worth staying at Brentford for a little while longer?

"Brentford have several quality players gaining interest from the Premier League and elsewhere, which suggests they should be aiming for promotion next season.

"With Maupay's goals they should do very well next season and if they can tighten their defence they should reach the play-offs at least.

"The Bees could persuade him to stay in a bid to reach the Premier League. He is still young and it is unlikely his form will dip, so staying at Brentford wouldn't be a bad thing."

Is £15m an accurate representation of his value?

"It is quite a significant sum for a player who has never played in the top-tier, but given he is a proven goalscorer and his age he could prove to be a bargain for just £15m.

"The likes of Britt Assombalonga and Chris Wood have signed for similar fees in recent years. Both scored at a similar rate to Maupay, who is younger and better suited to the Premier League, and his value could increase drastically within a few years.

"Brentford were initially believed to want a fee around £20m for the forward, which for a young and proven goalscorer is a reasonable amount, despite his lack of Premier League experience."

Where could he be in five years time?

"He could go on to play for a top side within a few years, and given his talent he will likely be playing for a top ten team either in England or in Europe.

"Natural goalscorers are hard to find and Maupay has shown he is exactly that. He scores all types of goals and is brilliant at wrong-footing goalkeepers and evading defenders, and that is useful at all levels of the game.

"If he continues to play regularly and continues to work on his game then he could reach the very top, but his next move will be influential in that happening."
