‘He certainly should’, ‘He has to start’ – Christiansen to start £1.98m-rated Leeds star v Ipswich?

Leeds United confirmed the signing of left-back Laurens De Bock from Club Brugge in the week.

The 25-year-old has plied his trade in the Belgian League and has also played in the Europa League, so he arrives at Elland Road with some pedigree.

Should Christiansen put the £1.98m-rated defender straight into the Leeds starting XI for their match against Ipswich on the weekend?

We discuss….

Sam Preston

He has to start.

I would have started him even before Luke Ayling’s ankle surgery that has ruled him out for the rest of the season but now that’s happened, Christiansen has no choice but to start De Bock.

Move Gaetano Berardi to right-back and let Leeds get settled into the defensive unit that will be the bedrock of their promotion push, as soon as possible.

Luke Randall

He certainly should.

De Bock should slot right into the left-back position, with Gaetano Berardi switching back to a more suited position.

However, after limited time for Christiansen to drill in his plans to the defender, and with a reduced amount of training he may be lacking in fitness for a start on Saturday.

Chris Gallagher

He should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Leeds haven’t used a natural left-back all season and it’s showed at times. De Bock is that man and will establish himself as a key player for the Whites.

Luke Ayling’s injury has meant Berardi will move back to his natural right-back position so De Bock is a certainty to start.

George Dagless

Without a doubt.

De Bock was signed as the answer to Leeds’ left-back woes and so surely he’ll be thrown in against Ipswich.

The expectation will be high on him given how long the club’s waited for a man in his area and so he needs to put in a strong showing.
