Jack Butland’s future at Stoke seems to be in doubt after a below par season for both the player and club.

After being named as number two for England at the World Cup, Butland’s form never recovered to what it was in the Premier League, and he was one of many Stoke players to underperform this season.

It is time for Nathan Jones and Stoke to rebuild now though, and it feels that they will have to do so without Butland.

Barnsley goalkeeper Adam Davies has been linked with Stoke, so this could pave the way for a Butland departure.

Is he destined for an exit this summer?

We debate…

Alfie Burns

“I think so.

“It was admirable of him to give it one season with Stoke in the Championship, but this is an England international we are talking about and he can’t be kicking around in the second-tier.

“Butland will command a decent fee for Stoke, but a Premier League team will eventually pay it and I’m sure it’ll be a good move for all parties involved.”

Lewis Steele

“I think so. This time a year ago he was linked with the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal for huge money, so Stoke may regret not selling him earlier.

“Despite not the best year or so, he is certainly Premier League standard.

“He needs to leave if he is to challenge Pickford at England.”

Louie Chandler

“I would be very surprised if he stays.

“It does not seem to be any clearer where he will actually be going but with strong suggestions Adam Davies from Barnsley will be arriving, I expect him to go.

“And so he should. It will bring in a very useful lump of cash or Jones to reinvest in the transfer window.”
