Fabio Carvalho should 'thrive' at Liverpool and he has the ability to force his way into the Portugal squad for the World Cup later this year, Football League World has been told.

Fulham enjoyed a remarkable season in the Championship, with Marco Silva's side winning the title to seal an immediate return to the top-flight - and Carvalho was central to that. The 19-year-old scored ten goals and registered eight assists, as well as impressing with his overall game.

Therefore, it was always going to be difficult for the Cottagers to keep hold of Carvalho and a move to Liverpool has been sorted ahead of next season.

Making the step up to join Jurgen Klopp's side might seem a big one, as the Reds are one of the biggest clubs on the planet and expected to push for all major trophies each season.

However, FLW caught up with Humphrey Aghoghovbia Jr, who now runs Lion Heart Football but previously scouted Carvalho when working for Fulham, and he backed the teenager to take it all in his stride.

"Having spoke with Fabio at 18, he expressed his desire to just play men’s football and prove himself which he has done so impeccably and I believe Liverpool, a club who right now that is really stacked with focused high achieving elite players and where complacency is an absolute no, is a fantastic move for him and he can thrive.

"I believe Fabio will be a Champions League player and represent the Portugal national team in the near future - I wouldn’t rule out Qatar 2022."

There has been plenty of talk about who Carvalho will represent at international level, with the playmaker having featured for England at various youth age groups. But, he turned out for Portugal's U21 side earlier this year, which suggests his future lies with A Seleção.
