West Brom have finalised a move to sign Sheffield United striker Callum Robinson during the current transfer window, according to a report by Football Insider, with Slaven Bilic looking to add attacking reinforcements as they push to sustain their challenge for promotion back to the Premier League.

Robinson has struggled to break into the first-team at Bramall Lane this season with Oli McBurnie, David McGoldrick and Lys Mousset all ahead of him in the pecking order, along with further competition from veteran striker Billy Sharp.

So will Robinson be a good addition at the Hawthorns and is he actually needed?

"He'd be a decent signing.

"You would have to say that he hasn't shown enough over the years to suggest he could be a prolific goalscorer at this level but he is only 24-years-old.

"And, in terms of his abilities, there's no doubt that he would bring something to the Albion squad that they are currently lacking with their options up top. He is pretty quick, will stretch defences and looks to get in behind and that can help the likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana.

"The other positive is that he can fill in out wide if needed so he will be adding depth to an already strong attack. On loan, it makes total sense and could look a shrewd bit of business come May as Albion hope to be back in the Premier League."

“This could turn out to be an inspired signing by West Brom as there is no doubting Robinson’s quality at Championship level.

“A stand-out performer last season for Preston North End, the winger scored 12 goals in the second tier whilst also providing three assists for his team-mates.

“Although Robinson has ultimately failed to replicate these performances in the Premier League with Sheffield United, there is no reason why he cannot thrive under the guidance of Slaven Bilic at the Hawthorns.

“Given that Grady Diangana is currently struggling with injury, the Republic of Ireland international could occupy the left-hand side of midfield in the coming weeks for the Baggies.”

George Harbey

"I think that this could be the signing that wins West Bromwich Albion promotion this season - it would be a massive statement of intent to lure Robinson away from Bramall Lane this month, albeit on a temporary basis.

"Robinson looked excellent in the early stages of the campaign however things just haven't worked out for him at Sheffield United as of yet, and a loan move away could really help him reignite his form this month.

"He is a proven talent at Championship level, scoring plenty of goals and producing plenty of assists for Preston North End last season, and if he can replicate that kind of form this time around, West Brom would have one hell of a player on their hands.

"Whilst their midfield is arguably one of the best in the league, Charlie Austin, Hal Robson-Kanu and Kenneth Zohore just haven't been prolific enough and grasped their chance when it has come their way, so Robinson could add some real quality to the final third.

"He can be the final piece in their jigsaw."
