The EFL have announced their team of the week, with Leeds United’s Luke Ayling making the cut after his winning goal against Bristol City, but there was no place for Kalvin Phillips.

The Whites got back to winning ways at the weekend when they faced fellow promotion chasers Bristol City, looking to extend their gap to third place as Fulham welcomed Barnsley to Craven Cottage.

Results went in Leeds’ favour as none of the top seven recorded wins apart from Marcelo Bielsa’s men and it has seen them move three points clear of third place.

Luke Ayling’s opportunistic first-half strike settled matters at Elland Road against his former club, with the Robins counting themselves lucky that they weren’t on the end of a heftier scoreline as Leeds failed to take their chances again.

The Bristol game marked the second game since Phillips returned from a three-match suspension and there was a marked difference in the home side’s performances all over the pitch, with much more balance in defence and attack.

With Ayling winning the match for his current side, he was named in the EFL’s team of the week:

However, the right-back was the only Leeds player to make it into the lineup, with Kalvin Phillips not selected, nor was Robins goalkeeper Daniel Bentley who had a marvellous game for the away side to keep the scores at just 1-0.

Fans were quick to point out the omission of the latter two names, even though Ayling deserved his spot...

Do you know the nationality of these Leeds United players?
