What a disastrous campaign this has been for Sheffield Wednesday.

Firmly out of the play-off hunt and looking over their shoulders at the bottom three, the 201/18 season has been an unmitigated disaster for all of those associated with the South Yorkshire side.

Whilst fierce city rivals Sheffield United threaten to pull off consecutive promotions under a talented manager, Wednesday took drastic action by relieving Carlos Carvalhal of hid duties and replacing him with Dutchman Jos Luhukay.

The Portuguese boss was subsequently given a Premier League job with Swansea City and is well on course to guide the Swans away from danger. Ouch.

Luhukay has a huge task on his hands in the summer if he is to turn the fortunes of this side around, and squad depth will be key having been ravaged by injuries this season.

Faces must be moved on first however, with this pair looking increasingly likely to be on their way out…

Loovens is in his fifth year with the Owls having joined from Real Zaragoza in 2013, but it certainly looks like this will be his last season in the famous blue and white stripes.

With his contract set to expire and no renewal in sight, the experienced defender is likely to be seeking new employment in the summer, with Luhukay surely keen to bring in a new era of centre halves at Hillsborough by the start of next season.

The Dutchman has appeared regularly this term but his age has begun to show at times, and as more games pass and the Owls fall further down the table, his fate appears to be sealed with every passing week.

Wednesday fans, forget about this fella?

Forestieri has been amongst the standout players in the division over the last few years, but injury has kept him out for much of the current campaign.

Poor form can certainly be attributed to the early loss of the influential Argentinian, and the Owls could be struck further should the player depart for a new challenge in the summer.

Having been out for so long clubs may be hesitant to strike a deal, but all it will take is for one side to take a punt on the player, and for Forestieri to call time on his career at Hillsborough.

The former Watford man is ambitious and keen to excel his career, and doesn’t look likely to achieve Premier League status with his current side.

He could well be off in the summer.
