Colchester United manager Hayden Mullins has admitted to facing a "selection headache" ahead of his side's clash with Bristol Rovers tonight, as reported by Gazette Standard.

Mullins' side hosts the Gas tonight, looking for consecutive victories after a promising triumph over high-fliers Harrogate Town on Saturday, with the U's hoping to climb further from the relegation zone.

The U's will look forward to the game with no fresh injury concerns, but defenders Miles Welch-Hayes and Ryan Clampin will both continue to be absent, with the latter testing positive for covid-19. Alan Judge may also become available but will face a late fitness test, meaning Saturday's hero Sylvester Jasper could earn a start.

Mullins addressed his selection issues ahead of tomorrow night, speaking to the Gazette Standard: "We have a selection headache but that's what we want - 100 per cent. If the boys do what the likes of Sylv (Jasper) and Samson (Tovide) did and Junior (Tchamadeu) who came into the team and took their chances, it makes it really tough for me.

"But that's what I want - I want players to come in and hit the ground running and really give me a headache."

The verdict

Whilst it's never a good thing to struggle with team selection, it's better to have too many options than not enough. The quality that Mullins' has at his current disposal is more than enough to build some real momentum in this Colchester team and a chance to start pushing on with the season. The U's have so many excellent homegrown talents and experienced faces in the dressing room, it's time the club kicks on and starts to give the fans the performances they deserve.
