Stoke City midfielder Joe Allen is a target for Europa League bound Wolves, it has been reported.

The 29-year-old has made 123 appearances and scored 16 goals during three years with Stoke, but following a disappointing first season back in the Championship for The Potters, Allen recently admitted to The Stoke Sentinel he would have to consider an opportunity in the Premier League should one arise.

It now appears that that could indeed happen, after The Mirror reported that Wolves, who finished seventh in their first season back in the Premier League to secure a place in the Europa League for next year, are interested.

Prior to this season, Allen had spent seven straight campaigns in the Premier League, with Swansea, Liverpool and Stoke, gaining experience of both the Champions League and Europa League during his time at Anfield.

So, would Allen be a good signing for Wolves?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions...

Gary Hutchinson

“Yes, I think so.

“He’s industrious but needs to move on from Stoke as they evolve into their new selves.

“I can see him in the Premier League, it’s more suited to his talents anyway.

“The price would have to be right though, he’s not worth huge amounts.”

Toby Wilding

"This would be a smart move from Wolves.

"The Midlands side have used just 19 players this season, but they will undoubtedly need to call on more next season, especially now they are heading for Europe.

"Given Allen has experience of both top flight and European football, he would surely provide a good option for Nuno Espirito Santo's side."

Jacob Potter

"He’d be a good squad rotation player for next year’s campaign.

"Allen hasn’t exactly set the world alright with Stoke this season, but he has the experience of playing in the Premier League, which will make him a useful signing in the summer.

"I doubt he’d be a regular starter, but he’s a good player to rely on when called upon."
