Stoke City are one of a number of clubs chasing Barnsley defender Liam Lindsay, The Scottish Sun have reported.

The defender made 41 appearances for The Tykes last season, as Daniel Stendel's side won promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

Lindsay's impressive contribution to that success means that he has now attracted plenty of attention from elsewhere, with reports claiming that Stoke, West Brom and Derby are all interested in the defender.

It has also been claimed that Brescia, who were recently promoted to the top flight of Italian football, Serie A, have tabled a bid of just over £1million to Barnsley for Lindsay.

The defender is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Oakwell, meaning Barnsley may have to sell him this summer if they are to receive a fee for the 23-year-old.

So, would Lindsay be a good signing for Stoke?

We put that question to some of our Football League World writers...

Chris Gallagher

"He is exactly what they need.

"Nathan Jones needs to have a big clear-out this summer and bringing in young, hungry players has to be the way to go.

"At 23 he has his best years in front of him but importantly, he will also make an impact on the side right now as he has enough ability to play in the Championship."

Toby Wilding

"Defence is one area where Stoke appear yet to have made any moves in the summer, and this would be a great start to that particular phase of recruitment.

"Lindsay is already a solid and reliable centre half with plenty of potential for the future as he develops in the game, something you feel could be helped by working along someone like Potters' captain Ryan Shawcross, who will have plenty of insight to provide to Lindsay.

"This therefore could be a good move for all parties."

Alfie Burns

"This could be an outstanding move for the Potters to make this summer.

"Defence remains an area that needs strengthening and Nathan Jones looks to be well aware of that.

"Targeting players like Lindsay rather than high-profile names from the Premier League has got to be the way forward for the Potters, particularly after last season's disaster."
