A number of Derby County supporters have been urging the Rams to consider appointing former Wigan Athletic manager Paul Cook to replace the departing Phillip Cocu.

The Rams made the decision to part company with Cocu on Saturday, with Derby having endured a miserable start to the campaign which leaves them propping up the division with just one win from their opening 11 Championship matches. Cocu’s attempts to implement a more possession-based style of play and develop young talented players ultimately failed to pay off.

That leaves Derby needing to find a replacement who can come in and steady the ship and help to at least ensure the club survives in the Championship this season. However, it is thought that Derby will not be appointing a replacement for Cocu until after the proposed takeover is completed, per Derbyshire Live.

Therefore, Derby will have plenty of time to assess potential candidates to takeover and one such manager that should be under consideration is Cook. The former Wigan manager lead the Latics to promotion from League One in 2017/18, before keeping them in the Championship the following year. He then had them as one of the form teams in the division in 2020 despite their regelation.

Many Derby fans have been suggesting that Cook is the right manager for the job and that he could potentially do well with the Rams and help to get them out of their current predicament.
