Cardiff City signed Aden Flint from Middlesbrough in the summer but after 14 games of the season, is the move paying off?

Tumbling out of the Premier League after a single season back in the top-flight, it was always going to be a tough campaign for Neil Warnock and Cardiff City.

The veteran gaffer stated at the start of the season that it’d be his last in the game, and his side have so far been uninspiring after Round 14 of the Championship.

A 1-0 defeat at the hands of their Welsh counterparts Swansea City at the weekend slumped them to 14th in the table - six points off the relegation zone and as many off the play-off places.

Preparing for life back in the second-tier, Warnock made a host of signings in the summer.

Flint was one of two marquee summer signings made by the club - Robert Glatzel being the other having joined from German outfit Heidenheim.

Whilst the latter is slowly earning his critics for a slow start to life in South Wales, fans are growing fond of the former.

The 30-year-old Flint earned his reputation at Bristol City, where he featured over 200 times in the Championship for over a six-year period.

His formidable presence at Ashton Gate impressed then Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis, who brought him to the Riverside in time for last season.

Boro though missed out on a play-off spot by just a single point to Frank Lampard’s Derby County, and have since seen their fortunes dwindle under Jonathan Woodgate.

Cardiff then moved for Flint and when they secured his services with a deal worth around £4 million, fans thought they’d made the signing of the season.

Whilst their season hasn’t gone as expected up to now, Flint has proved to be a good signing.

From the centre back position he’s managed to create three goals and score one himself, whilst proving a force at the back for Warnock’s side.

Though their defensive record isn't where it should be, Flint can expect to be partnered by Sol Bamba in the coming weeks - a centre-pairing that will frighten the best of Championship strikers.

Flint has by no means been a flop at Cardiff this season - He’s been a solid performer for Warnock.

His consistency will be key is getting some form going at the club, and the table remains tight enough this season for a couple of wins to throw a team right into contention in the Championship.
