After a desperately disappointing season at Leeds United last year, Marcus Antonsson is seemingly back on the goal trail at Blackburn Rovers.

He scored the winner for the Lancashire club at Scunthorpe on Tuesday night after grabbing his side’s third goal in a 3-0 win against Rochdale on Saturday.

Antonsson is on a season-long loan from Leeds United who hardly gave him a look in due to the form of the prolific Chris Wood.

Garry Monk opted for a one up front system and would have been slaughtered if he didn’t choose the big Kiwi to lead the line.

As a consequence Antonsson’s confidence dipped.

Leeds must have faith in him however as he wasn’t sold in the summer despite reported interest by a number of clubs, especially back in his homeland.

Therefore a loan was the only available option for the £1.8m-rated striker, which he has so far taken into his stride.

It remains to be seen how many goals he will score for Blackburn and whether his form this season will be good enough to return to a Leeds side, who may well be in the Premier League by then.

Unfortunately, my feeling is that it is too late for Antonsson to be a part of this resurgent Leeds United side.

Blackburn are well capable of returning to the Championship and you can envisage him staying with them.
