It promises to be another busy summer for Nottingham Forest as Chris Hughton prepares to reassemble his squad.

Hughton will be keen get his own squad in place ahead of next season, after watching his side stumble to a 17th-placed finish in the Championship this season.

Five loan players are set to return to their parent clubs, whilst the seven out of contract are also set to be let go without being offered a new deal.

Brennan Johnson, Jordan Gabriel and Tyrese Fornah will all return from their impressive loan spells in League One, but what about the other players out on loan?

Nuno da Costa is one, having spent the season in Belgium on loan with Royal Excel Mouscron, as is club-record signing Joao Carvalho who has been on loan in Spain with Almeria.

Almeria have the option to buy Carvalho at the end of his loan spell, but there is still uncertainty over the Spanish club's stance on that particular deal.

A change in management at Almeria may have affected things, though. After failing to impress under Jose Gomes, Carvalho is making an impact at the right time under new manager Rubi, as per La Voz de Almeria.

In total, the 24-year-old has made 33 appearances for Almeria this season, making only 18 starts in the league, but his game time has increased in recent weeks.

If Carvalho can help Almeria end the season strongly, then the club may feel inclined to take up that option and bring the Portuguese midfielder to Spain permanently.

Chris Hughton spoke to The Athletic regarding Carvalho, saying: "It is difficult to speak about things that happened when I was not here. But there is obviously a reason why he has not been here this season. All of that was before my time.

"But we have to make a judgment on him. We spend as much time as we can looking at videos of players. Whether they are potential signings or our players who are out on loan."
