Morgan Whittaker has been in fine form for Plymouth this season becoming a key component in Steven Schumacher’s side and has proven to be an inspired loan signing from Swansea City

He’s been one of the standout players so far in League One and is a major contributing factor as to why Plymouth have excelled at the top of the table this season.

Argyle will be hoping their fine form can continue as they look to mount a promotion challenge to the Championship and Whittaker will be central to that.

With that in mind, we take a look his form so far this season and if he has a future at Swansea City.

How has he done so far?

As mentioned, Whittaker has been one of the standout players in League One this season.

He’s scored seven goals and made five assists making his 15-goal contributions to third highest in the division.

He’s mostly been playing in a free role off the front two and has thrived in being given the license to roam in the final third. He’s displayed the confidence he needs to make the step up to the Championship, something he’s struggled with so far.

He averages 3.1 shots per game according to WhoScored displays that confidence but also lends to a need to improve certain aspects of his game. At just 21 though, Whittaker has displayed all of the traits needed to make the step up into the second tier, whether with Plymouth or Swansea.

Does he have a future with the Swans?

He’s a player that Swansea should be looking at recalling in January. Joel Piroe and Michael Obafemi have both struggled this season when it comes to putting their chances away and Whittaker would add a goal threat in the final third.

He’s a confidence player but he’s shown that if you trust him, just as Schumacher has with Plymouth, he will deliver. So far, Phillip Cocu and Wayne Rooney at Derby have struggled to see his abilities, with Russell Martin preferring others over him.

Now being given regular first-team football, he’s delivering and it will only be a matter of time before he’s performing at a higher level.
