Luton Town completed the loan signing of Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath in the summer and it is fair to say it has been a productive spell for the American shot-stopper thus far.

Immediately emerging as the club's number one, with the Hatters also paying a six-figure fee for Matt Macey in the summer, it has certainly been a positive start for the 27-year-old.

Featuring in 20 league games thus far this season, Horvath has kept eight clean sheets, conceding a mere 20 goals during that time too.

Under former boss Nathan Jones, the Hatters did not take many loans at all and it was something that the Welshman did not like to do unless there was a genuine chance of securing a permanent deal.

Speaking to Luton Today last month about the possibility of striking a permanent move for the goalkeeper, Jones said: “We don’t take loans, but we felt that when there’s an opportunity to really improve, then we take the gamble and we always try to get an option.

“There are things in place that if we would like to make it permanent then I’m sure we can.”

One thing that could emerge as a potential stumbling block in Horvath's progression at the Championship club is the change of management, with Rob Edwards succeeding Nathan Jones after it was confirmed that the 49-year-old would take on a challenge at Premier League side Southampton.

A second potential barrier for Horvath is the expected return of James Shea, as the 31-year-old has been out injured all season.

The Arsenal youth graduate was integral to Luton's eventual sixth-place finish last time out, and should he be fit soon, then it will be interesting to see who will be operating between the sticks at Kenilworth Road.

Horvath's consistent performances for the Hatters earned him a spot on the plane to Qatar, however, he has not featured in the USA's opening three matches.

Should Nottingham Forest remain in the Premier League, then they will likely part company with Horvath in the summer and then it would be the Hatters who would likely benefit from that.
