Preston North End are reportedly one of the sides in the race for Huddersfield Town defender Rarmani Edmonds-Green, who has impressed on loan with Rotherham United this term.

Ryan Lowe took charge of the Deepdale outfit earlier this month and, as per The Sun, Edmonds-Green is a transfer target ahead of the 43-year-old's first transfer window in charge of the club.

So, would he be a good signing? And do they need him?

We quizzed our FLW writers for their thoughts...

Edmonds-Green is a bit of an outside of the box one that I didn’t expect but I certainly thing he could be a decent option. He might not be a regular starter at first but could definitely become one down the line.

Ryan Lowe obviously has experience of seeing him in League One and must have liked what he saw of the defender to warrant still being interested at his new side.

North End do need more defensive reinforcements in the January window but I would have thought they would centre more on the wing-back areas rather than the centre-backs.

Either way though, he could be a shrewd signing if he is picked up on the cheap and could eventually become a solid first-team player for PNE.

There is no surprise to see Championship interest in Rarmani Edmonds-Green, as he is proving to be a fantastic addition to the Rotherham United side this season.

The 22-year-old has shown his defensive and physical capabilities all season, whilst he has also proven to be a composed figure when bringing the ball out from the back.

He has a very high ceiling and deserves a shot in regular contention in the Championship.

He has gradually progressed through the leagues whilst on loan from Huddersfield, and for me, a recall in January would be quite likely.

I think Huddersfield should test him in their first-team environment unless a ludicrous offer does come in for him.

I can't profess to seeing much of Edmonds-Green, although he did feature for Huddersfield last season against North End behind closed doors in a game I attended and he had a bit of a nightmare as he was hooked at half-time.

This loan spell at Rotherham though seems to have made him a better player - he's a regular starter in a Millers' side gunning for promotion and he's contributing to goals as well.

Edmonds-Green is almost 23 though so it's not like he's a young, young player and despite featuring regularly in League One this season there still has to be doubts about him stepping up to the Championship.

North End though do need to look at their centre-back options - Ryan Lowe plays a back three and he likes all his defenders to be comfortable on the ball so in that sense, Edmonds-Green would be an interesting target.

With Patrick Bauer and Andrew Hughes' contracts both expiring in the summer, it looks like there's some forward planning going on if they decide not to sign what is on the table, and there are worse options out there than Edmonds-Green but I think there are potentially better fits who could come to Deepdale than him.
