Hartlepool announce agreement with departing Celtic player

Published

on

Hartlepool United have signed 21-year-old wing-back Brody Paterson on a two-year deal from Celtic FC on a free transfer.

Paterson can play as a full-back on either side or can play as a left winger. His versatility will be a big boost for the Hartlepool squad this season.

Last season he was on loan at League One Scottish side Airdrieonians where he went on to make 14 appearances for the club. In this time, he provided two assists, which came from him playing left back.

Manager Paul Hartley spoke to the club’s official media about Paterson: “He is someone I saw a lot during his time with Airdrieonians last season. He’s a good young player who can give us a few options in terms of positions.

“We’re really looking forward to working with him over the course of the season.”

Hartley can clearly see that Paterson’s versatility will be useful for the season ahead with him being able to play in several different positions. This will benefit the team who are looking to have a better season than last after them finishing in the bottom half of League Two.

Paterson shortly spoke to the club’s official media also: “As soon as I heard about the opportunity, it was a no brainer.

“I am excited to work with the gaffer and play in front of these incredible fans.

“I have been into training and all the lads are great. You can tell everyone is exited for the season ahead.”

When did Hartlepool achieve promotion to League Two?

Paterson is clearly happy with his move to Hartlepool and is exited for the following season. He will be looking to make an immediate impact, hoping to get The Pools off to a strong start.

With Hartlepool finishing in 17th in League Two last season, Patterson himself will be hoping to help guide his new side to an improved finish after a disappointing last season.

Hartlepool will start their League Two campaign at Walsall on the 30th July.

The Verdict

Hartley is obviously happy with the signing of Paterson and believes that he will improve the squad  with his versatility by him being able to play in a number of different positions, which should contribute to the team having a much-improved season.

Paterson sounds like he is happy with the environment that he has come into at Hartlepool, speaking highly of manager Hartley and the squad that he has built.

The signing of Paterson should help Hartlepool have a stronger season than last and they should be trying to aim for an improved finish in the table after a disappointing season last year. With a few more signings, Hartlepool could be trying to aim for a top half finish in the up-and-coming campaign.
