With the end of the season approaching, a number of clubs are already making their plans for the summer transfer window, and Everton are no different.

According to reports in the Mirror, the Merseyside club are lining up a move for Chelsea's Tammy Abraham, who has enjoyed a sterling season on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship, scoring 25 times in 37 appearances for the Midlands side.

Not everyone however, is convinced that Everton is the best option for Abraham, with Noel Whelan claiming that the striker should hold out for a move to a bigger club.

Speaking to Football Insider about Abraham, the former Leeds striker claimed: “He is too good for Everton. No disrespect to Everton, who are a great club but the way Tammy is playing he could be in the Chelsea team or that of another top club.

“There will be changes at Chelsea this summer. I doubt Eden Hazard will stay and they surely can’t overlook Tammy Abraham. They have to give him an opportunity. Surely they can’t do another Lukuku?"

Despite his impressive season at Villa Park, Abraham found the net just five times on loan at Swansea as they were relegated from the Premier League last season.

So, is Whelan right to claim that Abraham is too good for Everton?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their thoughts...

Alfie Burns

“Everton are a big club, and they might not be in Chelsea’s bracket, but I wouldn’t say Abraham is too good for them.

“Chelsea still seems a step too far for the striker, so for me, somewhere like Goodison Park should be the ideal route to take after this season.

“It’s easy to forget that Abraham was struggling at Swansea just last year.”

Jacob Potter

"I think he's wrong here.

"Abraham has been far too good for the Championship this season, but I don't think he's too good for Everton.

"If he isn't good enough to start for Chelsea, then he needs to be loaned out to a club like Everton, where he would thrive playing in front of Gylfi Sigurdsson."

Toby Wilding

"I think this is harsh on Everton.

"Abraham has been impressive in the Championship but his record at Swansea leaves him with something to prove in the top tier.

"A move for Abraham could therefore be a risk for an Everton side who have struggled for a centre forward option, let alone a team like Chelsea who will be expected to compete on four fronts."
