Many West Brom fans have reacted to the news Charlie Austin has been quizzed over tweets he directed at a fan of former club Southampton.
The 30-year-old striker left the Saints last summer for a move to West Brom and he has been playing a big part in the Midlands side’s promotion run.
Following his side’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend, Austin took time out to share his views on social media of the dangers of using it, something that has much been the talking point of late after the death of former Love Island host Caroline Flack.
One Saints fan then took it upon himself to reply to Austin, attacking his efforts for his former club – and the striker’s reply has gained much criticism.
The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has now confirmed that Austin has been quizzed by the Football Association about his various tweets, which including a number of swear words.
NEW: @TheAthleticUK understands the FA have asked Charlie Austin for his observations regarding his tweets about Southampton fans on Saturday night. Austin’s tweets included the phrases ‘cheeky c**t’ and ‘shit fans’. #WBA #WBAFC

It is also claimed that Austin will now have three working days to respond to the FA, who have strict guidelines on social media usage by professional footballers.
Those guidelines claim: “At all times, act in the best interests of the game and shall not act in any manner that is improper or brings the game into disrepute.”
Here are some of the responses to Madeley’s tweet:

They won’t be happy until they’ve removed all the personality and character from football. He’s entitled to his own opinions. Opinions that are in no way linked to the FA.
