Harrogate built upon their impressive draw with high-flying Mansfield Town on Tuesday with a 2-0 win against their Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.

The win pushed the Sulphurites above the Bantams into 11th, just seven points off the play-off places just past the halfway mark of the season.

Things started well for Harrogate this season, but a run of one win out of their last eight league games before their win over Bradford had Simon Weaver's side looking towards the bottom end of the League Two table.

After a hard-fought game in a very wet and windy Wetherby Road, scorer of both goals Jack Diamond insisted that this victory represents a huge step in the right direction.

“This result is massive and gives us lots of confidence going forwards, especially after the draw against Mansfield in the last game,” the on-loan Sunderland winger said via the Yorkshire Post.

“We knew what kind of game it was going to be against Bradford, we knew that we would have to win the battle for our quality to come out in the end and that is exactly how it played out.”

Diamond scored his first of the game on 62 minutes, after his cross-goal shot was deflected off Oscar Threlkeld and into the back of Alex Bass’ net, before wrapping up the game on 71 minutes as the 22-year-old ran through on goal and dispatched a low strike past Bass again, securing the three points for the home side.

The Verdict:

Diamond’s seven goals this season for the Yorkshire side and the youngster showed how good he really yet again.

You have to be thinking if he may be too good for League Two and wouldn’t look out of place in Sunderland’s side. Harrogate however must find the good form that had them up near the summit of the league and Diamond will be vital in their bid to reach the play-offs
