Many Nottingham Forest fans have taken to Twitter to react to Jordan Gabriel's message after the defender agreed a new contract with the club.

As confirmed by the Reds' official website, the 21-year-old is now set to stay at the City Ground until 2022.

Since joining Forest from Southend United in 2015, Gabriel has impressed at Under-18 and Under-23 level with the club and will now be looking to force his way into the senior side.

After being handed his debut by Reds manager Sabri Lamouchi earlier this season during the club's League Cup defeat to Arsenal, Gabriel was loaned out to League Two side Scunthorpe United in January.

The defender has already made five appearances for the Irons and will be looking to help his new side secure a positive result against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

Forest meanwhile will be aiming to get back to winning ways in the Championship following last weekend's 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion when they face Queens Park Rangers.

A victory on Saturday for the Reds could see them close withing one point of the automatic promotion places depending on the outcome of results elsewhere.

Reflecting on his decision to commit his future to the club, Gabriel tweeted: "Proud moment to sign a new contract at Forest.

"Thank you Gary Brazil and the rest of the staff for developing me into the player I am today!

"Fans have been class!

"Can't wait to go again next season!"
