It hasn’t taken long for Swindon Town’s new owner Clem Morfuni to make his first moves in charge of the Robins as no sooner after confirmation of his purchase of the club was confirmed, he’s filled two big vacancies.
The Australian has ended the eight-year reign of Lee Power in charge at the County Ground with the club suffering financially towards the end of his time at the club.
In a very honest first statement, Morfuni has admitted that there’s work to be done to pay off the club’s creditors and the immediate future will take significant funding, but the Aussie is committed to making Town sustainable and getting them up the EFL pyramid.
One of his first jobs has been to seek a new head coach following the resignation of John McGreal recently after just a month in charge, and that role has been handed to Ben Garner.
The 41-year-old held coaching roles with Crystal Palace, West Brom and Atletico Kolkata before being given the manager’s job at Bristol Rovers in 2019, and whilst the latter job may not have worked out for him, Garner has been given another chance – this time in League Two.
Quiz: What was the score the last time Swindon Town played each of these 25 teams?
He’s joined at the County Ground by an experienced former EFL defender in Ben Chorley, who will take on the role of director of football having been a part of the scouting and recruitment team at the club for a number of years.
Bristol Rovers fans may be seeing the funny side of Garner getting a job with a fellow league rival, but Swindon fans are more level-headed judging by their social media reaction.
Remember when wellens was appointed got Oldham relegated? Year after we got promoted with him! Patience. Back clem 100%

Brilliant to get those appointments sorted. Garner sounds like a brilliant coach but a poor manager. His 18% win rate at Bristol Rovers looks poor and their fans aren't giving us rave reviews!
But we have no choice but to give him space, get behind him and see what he can do.

Liking the approach already, real breath of fresh air. Might not be the best manager but Clem seems to have a real clear philosophy of where he wants the club to go. One things for sure, I can’t wait for the first home game! It’ll be buzzing

Got to get behind the lads. No matter Garners previous record, it’s a fresh slate, fresh team and a lot of youth which may benefit Garner.

Fantastic to have such detail and reasoning behind the appointments. Looking forward to the season COYR
