Plenty of Derby County fans have reacted on Twitter to their club's throwback post about Paulo Wanchope.

The 43-year-old, who observed the Rams' first-team players train yesterday, enjoyed a fruitful two-year spell at Pride Park during his playing career.

After joining Derby from Herediano in 1997, Wanchope made an instant impact on his debut as he scored a fantastic solo effort against Manchester United.

In the following campaign, the forward continued to be a menace in the Premier League as he scored 13 league goals for the Rams.

Although he was unable to match this particular tally during the 1998/99 season, Wanchope nevertheless played a key role in helping Derby secure an eighth-place finish in the top-flight.

Despite being somewhat of a cult hero amongst the club's supporters, the forward was sold to West Ham United by Derby in 1999.

On this day in 1997, Wanchope scored one of his most memorable goals for the Rams against the Red Devils at Pride Park.

Having received the ball from Chris Powell, the forward breezed past two United players before slotting home.
