‘Happy days’ – Many Tranmere fans respond to signing announcement

Tranmere have announced the signing of defender Calum Woods on a one-year deal and it has drawn a mixed response from some of their fans.

Woods is Micky Mellon’s second signing of the summer as the club prepare to be back in League One.

Liverpudlian Woods is primarily a full back but can also play at centre half and at 32 has a lot of EFL experience behind his back.

He was on the books at Liverpool before being released and later joining Dunfermline. He then also played for Huddersfield, Preston and Bradford, making Tranmere his sixth club.

Speaking to the club’s website, Woods said that he wanted to join Tranmere as soon as soon as he heard of their interest.

He said: “As soon as I heard Tranmere were interested, it was the only place I wanted to be. I’ve played in this league before and earned a couple of promotions. I know I’m coming into a team with back-to-back promotions so hopefully we can push on.

“I can play on the right or the left of the defence and I like to attack when we’ve got the ball. I can’t wait to get going.”

The response from some of the fans on Twitter was mostly positive, though a few people were frustrated that Woods was not Danny Mayor.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirland shone to the news, and responded to the club’s twitter by calling Woods “a great lad”.

Below are some of the best responses…
