Despite an excellent start to the season, Bristol City's poor form in 2018 means they are likely to miss out on the play-offs.

The Robins attracted plaudits from across the country for their displays in the Carabao Cup, where they beat Manchester United and pushed Manchester City close in the semi-final.

At the time, they were also flying high in the league and promotion looked possible.

However, they've stuttered since and although they are only four points away from sixth place, there are six sides better positioned to take the two remaining play-off spots.

That will frustrate Lee Johnson and the fans and failure to win promotion could lead to a tough summer for Bristol City, with several clubs interested in their key men, whilst the manager might want to make changes himself with others.

Here we look at three players who should stay at Ashton Gate though...

The talented left-back has been linked with a move to Premier League clubs for a few months now, impressing with his ability on the ball and determination to get forward.

However, at 24-years old, he has time on his side and a move to the Premier League can come further down the line.

Instead, he should focus on trying to take the Robins there himself. He still has aspects of his game that he needs to work on and he is more likely to benefit from playing regularly in the Championship.

Similarly, the Robins forward is another who will attract attention but again it would be better for his career to stay put.

Reid has been a revelation since Johnson decided to play him further up the pitch but he has struggled in the last month or so.

He will know that they have every chance of competing near the top again next season, where he will be key, and that should encourage him to stick around.

The big striker has had two relatively unsuccessful seasons in England and many may think he should move on in the summer.

Whilst that view is understandable, he has been hampered by injury and hasn't managed to get a proper run in the team at any stage really.

When he does play, he is a threat and Johnson should persevere with Djuric who could still come good, even if he doesn't always start.
