Birmingham City manager Garry Monk is one of the bookies' favourites to replace Mark Hughes at Southampton.

The latter was sacked by the Premier League club on Monday afternoon after a dismal run of form of late, and Monk was declared as the bookies' favourite before Hughes was relieved of his duties.

The 39-year-old has been tenuously linked with the vacant post at the St. Mary's Stadium, having spent eight years at the South Coast club as a youngster between 1996 and 2004.

There is no official link between the two parties, but due to his playing connections with the club, it's hard to dismiss any speculation between Monk and the Saints.

Blues' turnaround under Monk has been remarkable - the West Midlands club have won six of their last nine league games and sit just four points off the playoff places.
