Wolves, Ipswich and Huddersfield Town will all battle it out in an effort to sign highly rated Southend midfielder Jack Payne this summer, report the Echo News.
The 21-year old has been mightily impressive under Phil Brown at Roots Hall this season, scoring nine goals across all competitions from an attacking midfield berth.
A versatile player, he is able to play as either a central or left midfielder, as well a more natural Number 10.
Shrimpers boss Brown recently conceded he is resigned to losing one of his prized assets this summer, with his contract in Essex set to expire.
With that in mind, the Championship trio are said to be scouting him as they bid to draft in reinforcements ahead of another gruelling campaign.
Wolves are in desperate need of some dynamism in the final third having found goals particularly hard to come by since Benik Afobe was sold in January.
Ipswich, meanwhile, have had a solid season though could use fresh legs in the engine room after seeing their playoff hopes meekly crumble away.
Finally, Huddersfield have been active in the transfer market, already securing two players, as they bid to mount a push towards the top end of the table next term.
Dutch outfit Sparta Rotterdam are also thought to a surprising contender for his signature.
