Hamilton Academical manager Alex Neil has been given permission to speak to Championship side Norwich City about the vacant hot-seat at Carrow Road, according to BBC Sport.

"Further to an official approach by Norwich City, permission was granted for our Manager Alex Neil to meet the Norwich Board," read a statement from Ronnie MacDonald, the clubs vice chairman.

"Alex travelled to Norwich today to view the stadium and training ground.

Alex will return tomorrow for a meeting with myself after which a further statement will be made. We are delighted that Alex's achievements have been recognised by this approach and that our policy of progressing players, staff and managers continues."

Neil was appointed as player/manager of Accies in 2013 and won them promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season. Now the relative minnows sit in third place in Scotland's top division, just four points behind league leaders Aberdeen.

Accies impressive start to the season coupled with Neil's youth has culminated in an clamour of interest in the 33-year-old, and now Norwich City look to have lured the Scotsman to England.

Norwich, who are currently led by Mike Phelan following Neil Adams resignation earlier this week, are yet to comment.

Neil Adams, a former Norwich City player himself, has shown a lot of character in admitting the fact that the role may have been a step too early and overall wants to ensure that Norwich have the best possible chance to return to the top flight of English football.

He told the club website: “I feel it is in the best interests of the team that an immediate change is made in order to ensure a positive impact on results.”

Adams will return to Norwich in July in a currently undisclosed position after taking a break from football.
