Half a season on from Leeds fans’ big transfer disappointment, it’s worked out well for club

Leeds United may have lost to Norwich City at the weekend but they remain one of the teams to beat in the promotion race this season.

The Whites have been excellent at times this year and it seems clear that across the board they are strong – even if some have suggested they need more players.

Indeed, in a piece we’re dubbing FLW In Hindsight, we’re taking a closer look at a rumour fans wanted to see go through, that perhaps has turned out for the better that it hasn’t.

Ever since Kyle Bartley left Leeds United after his loan spell, fans wanted him back at the club.

Indeed, last summer Swansea seemed ready to let him go and that they did, but Leeds never really seemed interested despite the calls from many fans.

He went to West Brom and, to be fair, started as a regular – notching up plenty of games and playing the full duration more often than not.

However, West Brom have had a defensive issue all season and, in trying to address that, Darren Moore has seen him out of the side – he’s played just twice in the league since the start of November (though in part thanks to injury.)

It does seem safe to assume he is no longer a first-team centre-back at Albion, though, and fan comments suggest the jury is largely out – far from the praise he received when at Leeds.

Of course, this is not to say that he is a bad player – that is far from fair – but with Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson excelling and the likes of Gaetano Berardi and Aapo Halme coming in and doing well when needed, the Bartley demand has gone quiet.

Would Leeds fans say no to him? Perhaps not, but you can bet the instant clamour to say yes would be much depleted right now.
