Plymouth Argyle have finally dispensed with the services of Derek Adams, with just one match left of the season.

The fiery Scot cut a desolate figure as he left the field this weekend, having watched his team get thrashed 5-1 at Accrington Stanley.

Coupled with Wimbledon's victory, that's left the Pilgrims in the bottom four in League One and needing to win their final game, as well as rely on results elsewhere, to retain their third-tier status.

The defeat meant they've now lost five games on the bounce, scoring twice and conceding fifteen. They've won one in 11 and the discord has been growing week on week. It reached a crescendo against Stanley and Adams has paid the price.

It's fair to say the decision has been warmly welcomed by Plymouth supporters on social media. They've gone from a side on the edge of the play-off race last season to a demoralised squad seemingly miles away from the level they need to be.

There's been issues with player motivation, strikers left out and new contracts left unsettled. There's little wonder Plymouth fans are happy right now, despite their lowly position.
