Many Middlesbrough supporters have been suggesting that Rudy Gestede should now be firmly down the pecking order for Boro, after his performance in the 1-0 defeat at Fulham on Friday night.

The defeat ended a five-match unbeaten run for Middlesbrough in the Championship, with an early strike from Fulham’s Anthony Knockheart enough for the hosts to secure all three points, as Boro struggled going forward and did not manage even a single effort on target.

Jonathan Woodgate elected to start Gestede up front at Fulham ahead of both Ashley Fletcher and Manchester City loanee Lukas Nmecha, who had both started in the narrow defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup third round replay in midweek, but Gestede could not really take his chance to impress against Fulham.

Gestede had scored his first and so far only goal of the season in the league for Boro in his last start in the Championship, which came in Middlesbrough’s 2-0 win at Preston North End a few weeks ago, which had suggested that the 31-year-old could still have a part to play for Woodgate’s side this term.

However, his performance at Fulham saw Gestede fail to really offer enough of a threat, although he was starved of service at times, but when the ball was played up to him he was guilty of not holding onto it as well as he should.

Here then, we take a look at what Middlesbrough supporters made of Gestede’s performance at Fulham…
