Blackburn Rovers defender Greg Cunningham has revealed that he is set to miss a number of months with a knee injury, which has left many fans of the club devastated.

Cunningham was forced off early in the first half of Rovers' 4-2 loss to QPR on Saturday after suffering the injury, with Amari'i Bell coming on in his place.

The left-back joined the North West club on loan from Cardiff City in the summer and has been a regular fixture in Tony Mowbray's side, making 10 appearances so far this term.

The Irishman signed for the Bluebirds last summer after they were promoted to the Premier League but struggled to make much of an impact, featuring just eight times all season.

He looked to have established himself a role as an important player for Blackburn prior to suffering the injury.

Cunningham sent a message to fans on Twitter today to reveal that he had torn his ACL and would be out for a number of months.

Blackburn have made a solid, if slightly underwhelming, start to the season and are 14th, six points away from the play-off places.

Many Rovers fans appear heartbroken by the news and took to Twitter to express their devastation.
