Swansea boss Steve Cooper has confirmed that midfielder George Byers has been ruled out for the rest of the season as a result of the injury he suffered against Derby over the weekend.
Byers was forced off at half-time after landing awkwardly under a challenge from Derby goalkeeper Ben Hamer, and a scan has now revealed that the midfielder suffered a high ankle sprain which will keep him out for three months.
Cooper shared the news after Byers was not involved in Swansea’s goalless draw with QPR on Tuesday night, with Yan Dhanda starting the match in place of the ex-Watford man as the Swans’ struggled to break down their London opponents.
Byers’ upcoming lay-off will come as something of a blow to Swansea given their fairly limited midfield options, but this does now present an opportunity for either Dhanda or Jay Fulton to establish themselves in the side over the rest of the term.

Plenty of Swansea fans have responded to news of Byers’ injury with many of them describing it as a considerable blow, while others suggested this should now open the door for Fulton to work his way back into the starting line-up.
Here are some of the responses…

Actually Byers has been decent this season given the tactics he’s told to play. Remember this is first full season in the championship.
