Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy has joined Championship rivals Preston North End on a season-long loan deal, with the move being confirmed late last night.

After seeing Billy Bodin and Josh Ginnelly leave Deepdale on the expiration of their contracts this summer, manager Frankie McAvoy has opted to recruit in the wide area to provide more depth and competition in Lancashire.

The 26-year-old winger spent time with Preston's boss during their spell together at Norwich City, with the Canaries winning promotion to the Premier League in 2015 via the play-offs.

Murphy, who was just 20 at the time, made just 13 appearances that season but accelerated his development under the likes of Alex Neil and McAvoy and will be hoping to make a meaningful impact at North End to repay the latter.

This loan move comes as a surprise to many at parent club Cardiff City who saw the winger make 32 appearances last season, but has only appeared in Carabao Cup games during the 2021/22 campaign so far and may receive more game time in north England, despite both Junior Hoilett and Marley Watkins leaving Mick McCarthy's side in recent months.

And after joining the Bluebirds for an £11m fee back in 2018, with just one year left on his current deal in the Welsh capital, he will be eager to kickstart his career under a familiar face and prove why he should have been retained by officials at the Cardiff City Stadium.

With this, we take a look at how a selection of Cardiff fans reacted to this transfer.
