Cardiff City winger Josh Murphy has joined Championship rivals Preston North End on a season-long loan deal, with the move being confirmed late last night.
After seeing Billy Bodin and Josh Ginnelly leave Deepdale on the expiration of their contracts this summer, manager Frankie McAvoy has opted to recruit in the wide area to provide more depth and competition in Lancashire.
The 26-year-old winger spent time with Preston’s boss during their spell together at Norwich City, with the Canaries winning promotion to the Premier League in 2015 via the play-offs.
12 of these 25 Cardiff City facts are fake – Can you identify them?
Murphy, who was just 20 at the time, made just 13 appearances that season but accelerated his development under the likes of Alex Neil and McAvoy and will be hoping to make a meaningful impact at North End to repay the latter.
This loan move comes as a surprise to many at parent club Cardiff City who saw the winger make 32 appearances last season, but has only appeared in Carabao Cup games during the 2021/22 campaign so far and may receive more game time in north England, despite both Junior Hoilett and Marley Watkins leaving Mick McCarthy’s side in recent months.
And after joining the Bluebirds for an £11m fee back in 2018, with just one year left on his current deal in the Welsh capital, he will be eager to kickstart his career under a familiar face and prove why he should have been retained by officials at the Cardiff City Stadium.
With this, we take a look at how a selection of Cardiff fans reacted to this transfer.
What is the point in loaning him out. I can’t wrap my head round loaning out one of the only pacey players we have only to lose him on a free at the end of it. We gain nothing from this https://t.co/PJWXExdjn3

A strange one this – clearly Mick doesn’t fancy him though.
An already limited squad, further reduced. https://t.co/063ffd4eXa

Embarrassing. No ambition. All the best Josh poorly treated for a player of your quality

Does anybody at the club have a clue what they’re doing. Yes he’s a bit hit and miss and on a high wages but we can’t afford to send him to another championship club without a replacement for him, especially already struggling in midfield and attack https://t.co/rN5LhuiBj9

Nope. Don’t get this one at all. 🤷♂️ https://t.co/xihnpfkPV6
