Cardiff City midfielder Lee Tomlin is set to miss the next six to eight weeks of action after suffering a serious injury in training towards the end of the week.

The injury setback meant Tomlin was unavailable for his side's trip to face Stoke City on Saturday afternoon, and Cardiff struggled without their talisman in the side as they slumped to a 2-0 defeat against the relegation-threatened Potters.

This was only the third league match that Tomlin had not started since Neil Harris' appointment as manager, with the 31-year-old having scored seven goals and registered seven assists during his excellent displays for the South Wales outfit this campaign.

Speaking to the club website, Harris placed a timeframe on Tomlin's recovery from the setback, while the Cardiff boss also took the opportunity to claim that Tomlin's absence from the side now presents the chance for someone else to step up.

“He’s going to be out 6-8 weeks unfortunately. We wish him well," Harris said.

“It’s a blow to lose someone with the quality of Lee. Now we need others to take this opportunity.”
