Sheffield Wednesday defender Aden Flint is said to be 'gutted' about his recent injury setback.

The centre-back made four appearances off the bat after signing for Wednesday on loan from Cardiff City, but he picked up an injury in the 17th minute of a recent defeat to Rotherham United.

It's now been confirmed that Flint's hamstring injury is a little bit more complicated than was first feared.

As per Wednesday's website, Flint needs an operation on his hamstring and Garry Monk has confirmed he's facing a longer period on the sidelines than was initially anticipated.

In reaction to that news, Flint has taken to Twitter to deliver his reaction to the news, writing:

In terms of other issues at Wednesday, their hopes of surviving in the Championship have been boosted this midweek.

Tuesday saw Monk's side beat AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Hillsborough, whilst last night it was confirmed that Wednesday have had their 12-point deduction cut in half, moving them onto positive points and giving them an outside chance of moving outside the relegation zone at the weekend.

The Verdict

It's a blow for Wednesday losing Flint. He's a really solid Championship centre-back and Monk was looking to him to step up amid the club's fight against relegation.

As it happens, the injury has coincided with a massive piece of news regarding the point deduction. That should, naturally, lift spirits at Hillsborough, which might carry the team through Flint's first stage of injury.

Additionally, you've got players like Chey Dunkley battling to return to full fitness, which provides Monk with another centre-back option in the absence of Flint.

It's a blow, but there will be hope that Wednesday can react positively without Flint.
