Sheffield Wednesday suffered another defeat, as they were beaten 1-0 by Preston North End at Deepdale in Tony Pulis' first match in charge.

The game's turning point came after just 17 minutes, when Josh Windass was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Preston's Joe Rafferty.

The Owls had started the match brightly, but Preston's one-man advantage proved to be the difference as Tom Barkhuizen's well-struck effort beat Keiren Westwood in his first appearance for Sheffield Wednesday this season.

The defeat means that Tony Pulis' side are sat 23rd in the Championship table, and are three points adrift of safety after their opening 12 matches of this year's campaign.

Windass has recently taken to Instagram following the defeat, and admitted that he was 'gutted' to let his side down with an early red card at Deepdale on Saturday.

"Set backs are part of the game. Gutted to let the boys down yesterday and especially to miss the next 3 games. I’ll be working hard in the mean time."

Windass was making his 14th appearance of the season so far for Sheffield Wednesday against the Lilywhites, and will be eager to impress when he has served his three-match suspension.

The Owls are set to return to action this week, when they take on promotion-chasing Swansea City, in what is certain to be a tricky test up against Steve Cooper's side.

The Verdict:

He'll be hoping he can impress when he returns.

Windass deserved the red card for the high challenge in my eyes, and it definitely gave Preston the advantage in a game that Sheffield Wednesday had chances in.

His suspension hasn't come at a good time though, with Jack Marriott being ruled out of action through injury for at least six weeks.

It means that Tony Pulis is going to have to limited options in attacking areas of his squad for their upcoming matches in the Championship.
