QPR have had their fair share of signings that have proved to be 'hit or miss' in their history, and the club went through plenty of them after their financial instability.

But supporters were left furious by the club's decision to allow Alex McCarthy to be sold to Premier League side, Crystal Palace on a four-year-deal.

See how QPR fans reacted to the goalkeeper's departure at the time on Twitter below.

McCarthy had built a glowing reputation in the early stages of his career, which saw him earn a move to Loftus Road in the first place and had a bright future ahead of him.

But since leaving QPR, he didn't have the best of times with Crystal Palace, as the shot-stopper only went on to make a total of seven appearances for the Eagles.

So it certainly came as a surprise to see him earn a move to Southampton in August 2016, but McCarthy struggled for game time at St Mary's as well.

He was largely being used as a backup option to Fraser Forster, but has since managed to dislodge Forster and take over the number one jersey at Southampton.

McCarthy has gone on to make 25 starts for the Saints in the Premier League this season and has put in a number of impressive performances as they battle to retain their status in the top-flight.

He has kept four clean sheets and his good run of form was rewarded as he was called up to the England senior side.

McCarthy then made his long-awaited international debut as a substitute against the USA in a 3-0 win for the Three Lions.

QPR supporters had every right to be frustrated at his sudden departure, as he could have played a starring role in the future of the club if they had tried to keep hold of him.
