It has been revealed that Burton Albion record signing Liam Boyce has suffered a serious injury, which looks set to rule him out for the majority of the season, as per the club's official website

The 26-year-old forward was brought in on a club record deal, signing a three-year contract when he arrived from Ross County this June, as Nigel Clough prepares his Brewers side for their second ever season in the second tier.

However, Boyce was carried off in Saturday's pre-season friendly against Shrewsbury, Burton's last match before they kick off their Championship campaign by hosting Cardiff City on Saturday.

Scans have revealed that Boyce has ruptured his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) and the Northern Irishman is expected to be forced to sit out most of the season.

Burton fans reacted with great sympathy for their record signing, and unanimously wished him a speedy recovery, as all football supporters know how cruel these injuries can be.
