Leeds United finally look as though they can end their long wait outside the top-flight of English football this season, with Marcelo Bielsa's men flying high.

Things haven't been this good at Elland Road for a long time, with the Whites enduring a very tough period in their history.

In recent years, the closest they came to returning to the Premier League was under Garry Monk back in the 2016/17 season.

He managed to unite the fans, whilst a few shrewd signings and an in-form Chris Wood meant that they looked like the real deal.

However, it wasn't to be, with the Whites ultimately not even making the play-offs.

Yet, there was still optimism around the club, with many recognising that they were finally moving in the right direction under Monk.

But, as we know with Leeds United you should always expect the unexpected. And, shortly after the season ended, Monk resigned after talks with new majority owner Andrea Radrizzani.

As it transpired, he would shortly go on to take the Middlesbrough job, which certainly left a sour taste with all Leeds fans.

However, at the time, they were extremely unhappy with what went on - as these tweets show.

Whilst the next campaign was a frustrating one for the Yorkshire club, Monk didn't do very well on Teesside at all, with Boro sacking him before Christmas.

As for Leeds now, they have attracted a top-class coach in Bielsa and he has taken the club to new heights that haven't been seen in recent years.

Therefore, things did work out well for the club, despite the anger at the time.
