Birmingham City have confirmed that Fran Villalba has left the club to join up with Almeria.

The 21-year-old has joined the Spanish second tier outfit on an initial loan deal until the end of the season but the move can be made a permanent one in the summer window.

That spells the end of what has been a very brief spell for Villalba in the West Midlands, with the attacking midfielder only joining Blues on a free transfer from Valencia in the summer.

He leaves having scored just one goal in 17 league appearances - which came in the 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough at St. Andrew's back in October.

However, Pep Clotet hasn't used the Spaniard much in the past month and his last outing for Blues came against Hull prior to Christmas.

Despite his struggles overall, it's fair to say that most Birmingham fans feel Villalba had the potential to do well if he had remained at the club.
