Bradford City slipped out of the EFL Cup at the first hurdle last night, beaten soundly by Preston North End 4-0.
The Bantams have opened their League Two campaign with two draws, against Grimsby Town and Cambridge United, and were not expected to topple Alex Neill’s Championship side.
However, they were soundly beaten on the night, with on-loan Aston Villa forward Andre Green opening the scoring before 15 minutes had elapsed. Tom Barkhuizen added a brace in either half before Josh Harrop concluded the rout with little under 20 minutes remaining.
Manager Gary Bowyer was disappointed with his side, claiming on the official club website he was disappointed with the nature by which his team went out of the competition.
“It was a disappointing night against a very good team. They have assembled a very good squad which you could see.
“Having said that, I am very unhappy with the manner of the goals we conceded and the opportunities our players have missed.”
Bantams’ supporters were equally as disappointed after turning out to watch their side. The defeat was humbling, a stark reminder of the task they have in making themselves League Two promotion contenders.

Absolute disgrace tonight from the first kick to the last. The only player worth his salt tonight was Tyler french. The rest were shocking. Doyle should have a vagina. Akpan and Anderson are stealing a living.

Two points from a possible six in the league and now a swift exit from the Carabao cup. Early days but clouds seem to be slowly gathering !

Was lucky enough not to attend tonight but by the look of it the 4-3-3 and starting Doyle and Anderson still doesn’t work

Woeful and if we play like that again we won't be anywhere near the playoffs gutless and embarrassing ????
