Coventry City have had a tough start to their Championship season, although the fact they beat leaders Reading last time out shows they have the ability to compete with anyone on their day.

That was an impressive performance from Mark Robins' men and summer signing Gustavo Hamer managed to get his first goal for the club.

The midfielder was an eye-catching addition for the Sky Blues and it's fair to say that he's made an impression in the opening weeks of the campaign and here we assess the start of Hamer's Coventry career...

How's it gone so far?

As mentioned, Hamer has had a lively start with the Midlands side and he's a player the fans certainly appreciate because of his high-intensity approach.

That has resulted in a red card against Bournemouth but there was good news for Hamer as he struck the opener last time out. On the whole, he has settled quickly and will be a key player for Robins this season.

Coventry City quiz: Can you name the club’s top goalscorer from the last 13 seasons?

What issues does he face?

Like any relatively young player moving to a new league for the first time, Hamer needs time to adapt.

He has shown that he can be a very good player but, like Coventry overall, he hasn't been consistent enough so far in the campaign. That will come with time though.

In terms of his minutes, the new signing has quickly become an important member of the XI.

What's next?

The challenge for Hamer is to keep improving.

At 23-years-old, he is someone who has his best years in front of him and he is at a club that will give him the time to develop and he is playing under a coach that suits his game.

Long-term, he's sure to have ambitions to play in the Premier League and Coventry will already know they may struggle to keep Hamer if he goes on to fulfil his undoubted potential.
