Noel Whelan has talked up Leeds United making a move for Joe Hart in the summer, with the goalkeeper expected to be on the way out of Burnley when the transfer window comes around.

Leeds may well be on the lookout for a new goalkeeper in the summer, with Football Insider previously revealing that Hart is open to the possibility of linking up with the Whites.

Whilst he’s not at the peak of the powers that made him and England No.1 for many years, Whelan believes he’s the experienced head the club could benefit from linking up with.

Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan stated: “If he is available on a free transfer you are not going to be losing out on much.

“His wages will be big though, do not get me wrong but we could possibly get two years out of him.

“He has been a mixed bag since he has left Manchester City and we have not seen the best of Joe Hart.

“I hope Leeds could get the best out of him because there is a fantastic goalkeeper in there and his career tells you that.

“Sometimes you need to find that right club to get that confidence back again. He has the experience and I am sure he’s the leader we need.”

When Hart was the No.1 for England, he was at Man City, but on the back of Pep Guardiola arriving in Manchester, Hart’s ability was quickly cast into doubt, not least because of his temperament with the ball at his feet.

Guardiola’s philosophy runs very closely to Marcelo Bielsa, who has preferred his goalkeepers at Elland Road to be confident in possession.

That has led to many fans questioning whether the Burnley man would be right for Leeds…

In addition to that, many Leeds fans want to see faith kept with Illan Meslier, who has looked so impressive in his two appearances so far this season for the Whites...
