Since Grimsby Town let Omar Bogle leave the club for Championship side Wigan Athletic in January, they haven't replaced him with anyone who can score enough goals to help them mount a serious promotion push.

The Mariners sacked manager Marcus Bignot in April after he won only nine out of 27 games at the helm and they bought back manager Russell Slade, for his second spell in charge of the football club.

Slade will be looking forward to a full summer of pre-season training with his team and also a full transfer window, where he will be looking to bring in his own players and implement his style of play on them.

Grimsby Town finished in 14th spot in Sky Bet League Two after a mixed season which saw them maintain any sort of consistency throughout the campaign.

After scoring just 59 goals this season, Slade will have to look to fill the gap left by Omar Bogle and he should turn to the following TWO players to help fire the Mariners up the League Two table next season....

Andy Cook

No stranger to Grimsby Town fans, Cook had a spell at Blundell Park between 2012 and 2014, where he found the net 14 times in 73 games.

The current Tranmere Rovers striker, may look for a move to the Football League after the Birkenhead club missed out on promotion to League Two after losing 3-1 at Wembley against Forest Green.

Cook managed to find the net on 23 occasions this season for Rovers, so certainly know where the goal is and could certainly help aid a promotion push for the Mariners.

John Akinde

Akinde has found the net 80 times in just 134 games for his current side Barnet and finished joint top scorer this season alongside John Marquis of Doncaster Rovers on 26 goals.

Akinde joined Barnet in 2014 and in his first season with the club he ended was top scorer on 31 goals, which helped Barnet lift the Conference Premier title.

In the 2015/16 season Akinde scored 23 goals which helped the London outfit to 15th place in League Two, clubbed together with his 26 goals this season, it shows that Akinde is a real handful in League Two and could be a very good signing for the Lincolnshire outfit.
