Sunderland stunned Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and they'll be keen to take that impressive showing into their league campaign.

Jack Ross' side take on MK Dons this weekend, in a game where they'll be expected to pick up three point to fire themselves back into the automatic promotion places.

But how can we expect Sunderland to line-up for the game against MK Dons on Saturday?

Find out below....

Jon McLaughlin is likely to retain his spot in between the posts, as he was rested in for the Carabao Cup win over Sheffield United.

Lee Burge impressed in that win for the Black Cats, but it wouldn't come as a surprise to see Jack Ross call on McLaughlin once again for their league campaign.

Laurens De Bock and Joel Lynch caught the eye with their performances against Sheffield United, and Ross singled the pair out for praise in their first starts since joining the club.

"As for Joel and Laurens, they have had to essentially do a mini pre-season with us which has been tough, but last night we got them out onto the pitch and performance-wise they were really good, and fitness-wise they looked strong as well."

Max Power could retain his place in the starting XI after he netted a stunning winner against Sheffield United, and could replace Dylan McGeouch, who started in their last league game against Bolton Wanderers.

It remains to be seen as to whether Aiden McGeady will be fit in time to face MK Dons this weekend, but if he's deemed fit enough, then it's likely he'll start this one.

Luke O'Nien is a certain starter on Saturday, and Jack Ross could be tempted to keep him in his more attack-minded role in the Sunderland team, after getting the assist for Max Power's winner in midweek.

With Marc McNulty still struggling in his race against time to be fit, it's highly likely that we'll see Will Grigg lead the line for Ross' side.

The former Wigan man has struggled to replicate his impressive goalscoring record at League One level, and is still yet to score in their league campaign to date.

He has made just two league starts, but this could be the perfect opportunity for Grigg to open his account for the season against an MK Dons side that have looked defensively frail at times.

It's certain to be a closely-fought battle at the Stadium of Light on Saturday, but Jack Ross' side will be confident of kickstarting their season, as they look to justify their pre-season promotion credentials in League One this term.
