Sheffield United were fancied by some to do okay this season but very few would have predicted just how good the 2017/18 campaign would be for Chris Wilder's men.

The Blades are still well in with a chance of reaching the end of season play-offs in the Championship and if they can break into the top six it would represent one hell of a maiden season back in the second tier.

The club from South Yorkshire romped to the League One title last season and Wilder has done superbly well to make sure that his team have maintained their momentum from the successful campaign.

The Blades' boss has achieved so much this season despite not really boasting any superstars and signing young, hungry players eager to play first-team football seems to have worked for the club.

Ahead of next season, FLW writer Lee Clarke looks at three free agents that Wilder might opt to sign in the summer...

The striker who is currently on loan with fellow Championship side Barnsley has really made people stand up and take notice with a devastating six goals from nine appearances.

He will not be short of suitors during the summer and the Blades would relish the chance to add another striker to add competition for Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp.

The 29-year-old is out of contract with Millwall during the summer and as a lifelong supporter of the Blades it seems only natural that he will start getting linked with the club sooner rather than later.

Gregory has netted nine goals for the Lions this season but his game is about much more than scoring goals. The lively striker brings others into the game and runs himself into the ground on a weekly basis.

The experienced central defender has been a mainstay at the heart of the Queens Park Rangers defence for several years now and a change of scenery might be on the horizon for the commanding stopper come the summer.

The ex-Manchester City man has made over 200 appearances for the Hoops and his no-nonsense style would be a welcome addition to Chris Wilder's back four at Sheffield United.
