Legendary Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Peter Shilton turns 70 years old today and many fans of the club have been quick to wish him well.

Shilton spent five years with the Reds, making over 200 appearances and helping them to have significant success under manager Brian Clough.

The shot-stopper began his career at Leicester City, before moving to Stoke City in 1974 and then joining Forest three years later.

The club had just been promoted to the top flight of English football and with Shilton in their side would go on to win the league title, the League Cup and the European Cup twice.

He left the club to join Southampton in 1982 but by then had cemented himself in club’s folklore.

Shilton’s ability was also recognised on the international stage where between 1970 and 1990 he made a record 125 appearances for England.

Sabri Lamouchi may have four goalkeepers in his current squad but he would surely trade all of those for Shilton in his prime if he could.

With Shilton turning 70 today, Forest wished the legend happy birthday via the club’s official Twitter account and many fans of the club were quick to wish him well.
